Business Central is a smart and strategic choice for any small to medium-sized company moving from basic
accounting software or upgrading from another system. In addition to its functionality, accessibility, scalability, and flexibility, it’s supported by Microsoft and therefore seamlessly integrated into the Microsoft stack.

But the decision depends on more than just the software. We recommend you take the time to properly evaluate, identify, and select the best ERP solution for your business. Follow the steps in our ERP Selection Guide to get started.

Business Central can technically be deployed online or on-premise. But as a cloud solution built on Microsoft Azure, an on-premise deployment won’t be able to deliver the full functionality and benefits of the true cloud solution. As a SaaS solution, Business Central’s functionality is delivered through a monthly subscription license that includes storage, hosting, and uninterrupted access to your data and applications. There are two licensing options available: Business Central Essentials and Business Central Premium. The core inclusions for both models are:

  • Financial Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Human Resources Management
  • Project Management
  • Warehouse Management

In addition to the basics above, Business Central Premium includes service management and manufacturing capabilities.

Per-person licenses for additional users are Team Member or Device licenses. Team Member licenses are for individual users; Device licenses are for communal devices like POS, shop floor, or warehouse devices.

You can find all the details about licensing and pricing (including a calculator) in the Business Central Breakdown whitepaper.

Pricing for Business Central varies depends on the number and type of licenses required. The current base monthly subscription prices are:

  • Business Central Essentials $70 per user per month
  • Business Central Premium $100 per user per month
  • Add-on Team Member license $8 per user per month
  • Add-on Device license $40 per device per month

Business Central has a similar look and feel to the rest of the Microsoft 365 suite, so it will be a familiar environment. It should be generally intuitive for Microsoft users to navigate but, like most ERPs, it is still a complex system. To encourage high user adoption rates, ensuring all users have comprehensive training is essential.
