Cloud Offering for SAP Business One

SAP Business One will be launched in the cloud in the first half of 2012.  This marks a significant evolution of the subscription-based hosting program for SAP Business One, which was launched earlier this year in some markets as a first step toward a partner-hosted cloud environment. This offer for small companies will complement the already available SAP Business ByDesign offering for customers in the mid-market segment.

SAP plans to further invest in SAP Business One, making the solution more cloud savvy from a technical and go-to-market perspective, providing you with a competitive cloud offering to expand your portfolio and enabling you to offer choice in delivery options to your customers.

This will allow a choice to SAP Business One users and prospects.  Purchase the software and run it on-site, or ‘rent’ the software and have it hosted off site.

SAP Analytics, Powered by SAP HANA

SAP Business One analytics will provide exciting new analytical functionality including enterprise search, interactive analysis, and reporting as well as new dashboards and the ability to leverage all types of data sources. In addition, it will allow you to offer customers self-service business analytics for their users. All these new capabilities will be delivered with the speed of in-memory computing.

HANA is SAP’s recent breakout success database that allows for companies, of all sizes to slice and dice their data into meaningful information.  By using RAM instead of hard drives, literally billions of records can be analyzed in seconds.

Enterprise search will allow users to search for anything appearing anywhere in the system and see the relevant results instantly.  The best way to describe it is your own private Google for your ERP software.

SAP Mobile Solutions

Given the strategic importance of mobility, SAP will further enhance the development platform for SAP Business One to provide greater opportunity for companies to leverage the open infrastructure for application development. The SAP Store will be much like Apple’s “App Store” where end users can easily purchase add-ins that easily extend SAP Business One’s functionality.

Inventory Control Software is computer software and systems that are designed to keep track of the products that you stock in warehouses.  Usually the warehouses are owned by the company, but sometimes they can be third party logistics (3pl) locations as well.  This software usually has a facility to keep track of on-hand quantities, receipts of products and shipments of products such that at a moments notice, users can tell what is available to sell to customers.

ERP Cloud Vendor–Which SaaS Solution is for you

ERP Cloud Vendors are appearing almost daily, how to choose?

There are now probably 25+ viable vendors who sell their software ‘in the cloud’ and who claim to be ERP Cloud Vendors.  Now the terminology can be confusing and I wrote about what each means here.

ERP Cloud Vendor – Which to look at?  My personal opinion is you really want to look at ERP Cloud Vendor solutions that are built as true ‘multi-tenant’ models.  This means that one instance of the software can host multiple customers.  There is a reason why a dedicated web server hosting is $100+/month and a ‘web site’ hosting service is $7/month or so.  This is because one server can host 100 or more websites, but a dedicated server, can only support one customer.

Many traditional premise based solutions from the big players like Sage, SAP or Microsoft, can be ‘hosted’ and can even be purchased in the ‘monthly per user per month’ pricing model.  However, only a handful are true multi-tenant and not some premise solution just running on a remote server.

At Clients First, virtually all of the solutions we sell can be purchased in a ‘saas’ model and we have clients on nearly all products running ‘in the cloud.’  However, relative to customers looking for the true economies of scale benefits of Multi-Tenant, we generally recommend either SAP Business By Design or Epicor Express as the ERP Cloud Vendor of choice.  Epicor Express being stronger for manufacturer’s and Business By Design stronger for distributors and professional services companies.

SaaS vs. Cloud ERP vs. On Premise Computing. Will 2011 be the big breakout year?

imageAccording to Panorama Consulting Group, a respected mid-market ERP think tank, they are starting to think so.  Eric Kimberling and I actually seem to have a pretty parallel feeling on the market.  Both of us felt the solutions were seriously overhyped.  However, based on more recent surveys, the various leads I’m seeing cross my desk, etc, I’m starting to think I may have ‘misunderestimated’ the growth.

Now, I want to be clear, I still think it will be a relatively small part.  In my opinion, less than 15% of all deals.  The survey says large numbers are considering ‘the cloud’ but I also have found many folks consider it because of the hype but when the run the numbers, realize that on-premise is often far less expensive over a 10 year cost calculation.  Read on for more.
