Sorting Epicor 9 Master File Descriptions

Prevent list items like employees and security groups comingling.

Annoyed when setting up menu security and the security groups are mixed with the employees on the list.

Go into the Security Groups Maintenance and add two leading spaces to the security group descriptions.

clip_image004

Next time in menu maintenance all of the security groups will appear at the top of the list and the employees will be at the bottom of the list.

This makes security maintenance easier than trying to pick the groups out of the middle of employees.

This works on other descriptions also if you do not want them in alphabetical order. If the database has ten product groups but the ninth group is 60 percent of the orders. In Product group Maintenance, add two spaces in front of the description. This product group will now be first in the drop down box.

This technique is not needed on master file that have the system default flag like terms and ship via.

How to Use the Dynamics NAV (Navision) RTC to your best advantage

Dynamics NAV 2009 now offers the Role Tailored Client (RTC) as the new client or user interface. This will be the only available client in the coming versions of Dynamics NAV. Since this user interface is still quite new, it is not always easy to find your way around. This blog is created to show some of the new features in Dynamics NAV 2009 that will make our life easier.

Filtered Lists in Dynamics NAV 2009 RTC

You may have already noticed the different lists that are available for sales orders. You can select between viewing all sales orders, sales orders that are shipped, but not invoiced only, open sales orders, and other filter criteria. These filtered lists are nice but wouldn’t it be good if we can create our own filtered lists as well and save them? This functionality is especially useful if you work with the same filter all the time. For instance, are you are a purchaser that only purchases raw materials and you would like to only see items that are raw materials? In this case, you can just filter the standard item list and then save the filters as shown below. Any changes you make as described here are only for you and not for all users of the system.

Creating a filtered list

1. Open a list and enter a filter or multiple filters. In this example, we have filtered the item card on items that have the Inventory Posting Group “RAW MATERIAL” and that have a vendor defined as the primary vendor.

How To Create Charts & Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 RTC

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Dynamics NAV 2009 now offers the Role Tailored Client (RTC) as the new client. This will be the only available client in the coming versions of Dynamics NAV. Since this user interface is still quite new, it is not always easy to find your way around. This blog is created to show some of the new features in Dynamics NAV 2009 that will make our life easier.

Generate Charts and KPIs for Dynamics NAV 2009 RTC

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 has a new type of controls that can be displayed in the Role Tailored Client (RTC) on the homepage of the role center. This type is called a chart and allows the graphical display of Key Performance Indicators. A simple way of creating these charts is using the Chart Generator Tool, which is described in this post as well.

The layout of a chart

For each chart you define the table that the information is based on, the information you want to show on the X-Axis including any filters you want to apply, and then you also define what data you want to show on the Y-Axis of the chart (either the sum of a field or the count of records). You can define multiple measures that should be displayed in the same chart. If you are defining a 3D chart, you also would then define the information to be displayed on the Z-Axis of the chart. This is how your charts could look like.

Improving the Performance of MAS90 and MAS200

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
  • For client workstations, make sure to exclude virus scanning pointed at your network MAS 90/200 installation folder. Since these files are in constant change, an anti-virus scanner will attempt to “scan” each file every time this happens, causing significant performance issues. Note: MAS 90/200 supports only corporate editions of anti-virus packages.
  • All modern versions of MS Windows can benefit from more RAM. If you are running less than 1 GB of RAM, consider upgrading to at least 2 GB’s. More is always better, in this case. The overall performance improvement in all Windows applications will be significant.
  • If you are running MAS 200, network performance is critical. Make sure you are running at least 100MB network interface cards (in full duplex mode) and your workstation and cabling can support these speeds (Cat 5 10Base-T cabling is a good choice). If you are running a large installation with 20+ workstations, consider using a managed Ethernet switch to support high throughput. (Editors note:  My experience is that Gigabit Ethernet is the single biggest improvement of speed with MAS90 in version 4.x.  The application sizes have grown 400% since version 3.71 and all applications are pulled over the network when you launch them.  100mbs sounds fast, but its ‘megabits’ not ‘megabytes’ .  Remember it takes 8bits to make a byte so this speed, with additional network collisions and overhead isn’t even enough to watch a single high definition video)
  • If you are running MAS 200 and Crystal Reports are slow to print, consider trying the Crystal client/server ODBC driver.
  • If you are running MAS 90 and experience intermittent hanging of the application, make sure all the printers in the windows printer manager are valid printers. If a printer has been removed from the network but not removed from the Windows printer manager, you may see intermittent hanging as MAS 90 attempts to connect to a printer.
