Epicor Hardware Configuration and Sizing Guide

Here is the latest versions for Epicor 9.05.7xx.  This Guide describes the Hardware, Operating System and Database Recommendations

Use this guide to figure out what type of hardware to obtain for your upcoming Epicor installation.  The guide also talks about virtualization but Epicor takes a ‘not warranted’ type of approach to this issue, but yet still supports it.

Our Clients First Technology Solutions unit can help you with any acquisition, configuration, installation & setup of hardware if you so wish.  Our team is familiar with the unique complexities of the multi-tier architecture and how certain configurations can provide for significantly better performance than others.

Remember there are multiple ‘moving parts’ in a full Epicor Deployment.  Components such as:

  • Windows Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server or Progress Database Server
  • Progress/Epicor Application Server
  • Web Client Server
  • Possible servers for 3rd party components such as ecommerce, shipping, EPM (Epicor Performance Management), Crystal Reports Server, XL Connect etc
  • Enterprise Search Server
  • Possible Terminal Server(s)

So as you can see, the configuration and installation shouldn’t be taken lightly if you want everything working reliably and at peak performance.  Also, check out our demonstration of our Disaster Recovery solution to ensure if you do suffer a hardware failure, you can continue operating with no downtime.  Given the number of moving parts, a Disaster Recovery solution will allow you to stay running much faster than the time it would take to reinstall all these components, patches and data.

By deeply integrating SAP Business Objects Crystal Reports into SAP Business One, companies now have the ability to get advanced reporting to make quick decisions based on business growth opportunities.  Previously this would have required custom programmers to be hired for each unique report needed.

Directly within SAP Business One you can now embed SAP Crystal reports such as sales analysis, purchasing reports, inventory availability besides the myriad of built in ready made reports.  These reports can combine data from User Defined Fields allowing significant customization power.  For example, you could add a UDF (User Defined Field) to the Vendor Record and Item Record and when combined together via Crystal, you could handle Royalty calculations which historically would have required a customization.  SAP Provides numerous Crystal Reports out of the box and all of the standard forms such as Sales Orders & Invoices are available in a Crystal version for rapid customization.


HANA for SAP Business One now Available

SAP Rolls Out ‘In Memory Analytics’ for SAP Business One.

Formally a technology only available at a very high price point for large companies, SAP has brought this technology down into SAP Business One at an extremely low cost and simple setup.  HANA is SAP’s newest and fastest growing line of business and is exceeding all their expectations in terms of customer satisfaction and sales rates

Fundamentally, SAP Business One, still operates the same as you are used to in terms of using Microsoft SQL Server for your day to day transaction processing.  What changes, is when you need to retrieve, report, search and analyze data, this is done from a near real time data warehouse that can retrieve, find, slice and dice your data nearly instantly.  Even your traditional SAP Crystal Reports will run an order of magnitude faster.

Initially, the slowest and most complex reports run in HANA, along with all the standard new Dashboards and the new Enterprise Search.  With each release, more and more reports will run from the HANA warehouse instead of your standard Microsoft SQL Database.
