Frx Replacement – Sage MAS Intelligence. A Video Demonstration

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Shipping now, Sage MAS Intelligence (SMI) which works with MAS 90, MAS 200, Sage Extended Enterprise Suite, and MAS500, is explained and demonstrated in this recording that the California office of Clients First recently put on for our clients. This solution is the replacement for FRx that Sage is offering now that Microsoft has discontinued Frx.

The video explains both the similarities and differences between the previous solution, Microsoft FRx and SMI.

In a nutshell, SMI is a solution that is embedded into Microsoft Excel that can directly read and understand MAS 90/200/500 data files.  It’s designed to walk a user through creating not only financial reports and statements, but other types of non-financial reports such as dashboards, analytics, KPI’s and even traditional reports such as an AR customer aging.

Come watch and listen in this segment which gives an overview and demonstration of the system.  In a forthcoming blog, we will go into a deeper demonstration of the solution so that you will be able to watch these videos and start to feel comfortable managing and designing your own reports.

Sage MAS Intelligence (SMI) for MAS 90, MAS 200, and MAS500 – Part 2

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Shipping now, Sage MAS Intelligence (SMI) which works with MAS 90, MAS 200, Sage Extended Enterprise Suite, and MAS500, is explained and demonstrated in this recording that the California office of Clients First recently put on for our clients.

The video explains both the similarities and differences between the previous solution, Microsoft FRx and SMI.  This is Part 2 of a two part series where we delve into much more details on how to use the application.

In a nutshell, SMI is a solution that is embedded into Microsoft Excel that can directly read and understand MAS 90/200/500 data files. It’s designed to walk a user through creating not only financial reports and statements, but other types of non-financial reports such as dashboards, analytics, KPI’s and even traditional reports such as an AP vendor aging.

FRx vs. (versus) Microsoft Managment Reporter

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

FRxBuzz, a blog about all things FRx has done a shootout between FRx and it’s soon to be replacment Microsoft Management Reporter

This was the first time I really looked at this new product and I was surprised and happy to learn that it’s still VERY similar to FRx and not a complete redesign.  It’s completely modernized, but if you are familiar with FRx, the learning curve looks very short.  I think it is supposed to convert FRx report definitions but I need to confirm.

The one major issue is this solution is only available for Microsoft Dynamics.  So if you are on, sage Sage MAS90, MAS200 or MAS500, Sage is moving to a new set of financial report writers that may be as good if not better, but will be different from FRx and thus will have a longer learning curve for those familiar with FRx.

Here is the article.

Breaking News-Looks Like Microsoft FRx lives as PerformancePoint “dies”

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Per an article from Network Computing Here.  It looks like Microsoft will no longer be offering the PerformancePoint bundle of applications.

It will roll the analytics, dashboarding and scorecarding into the enterprise version of Sharepoint server for free.  It seems to be killing off the Planning and Reporting application that was supposed to eventually replace FRx, their Dynamics unit’s financial reporting tool that came along with the original Great Plains acquisition.

There have been rumors for a while that FRx was no longer going to be enhanced and eventually phased out.  This article essentially says FRx now lives on.

Given the huge knowledgebase of expertise out there, including among our 90minds members, this is great news for the simple and easy to utilize tool known as FRx.
