Insights 2017—Epicor Customer Conference

May 22-25, 2017      Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Nashville, TN

http://www.epicor.com/customers/insights/default.aspx

Make your plans now, you are running out of time:

This year the Epicor Insights 2017 is being held in Nashville, TN.     Epicor Insights is a yearly gathering of over 4000 Epicor Customers, Epicor Partners, and Epicor Employees.   The Epicor conference is hosted by the Epicor Users Group and Epicor Corporation.

Why should your company send people to Insights?

  • Insights is an excellent education opportunity with all of the following brought together in one location:
    • Classes – Dozens of 60-90 minute classes are held. These classes are interactive and allow questions.   These classes are given by other Epicor Customers, Epicor Partners, and Epicor Employees.
    • Hands-On Labs – The labs are more detailed and hands-on with lab exercises to enter into Epicor and view the results. Two people share a computer to perform the exercises.
    • Extended Educations Session-These sessions are offered the Saturday and Sunday prior to the conference. These sessions are much more in-depth than the conference labs.    Each of these training sessions cost an additional $260 over the cost of the conference.  Smaller class size, product-specific training with access to technical experts.
    • Solutions Pavilion – A room where Epicor and the Epicor Alliance partners demo solutions that extend the Epicor application. This is an opportunity to meet face-to-face with personnel to answer your business and technical questions.    During pavilion hours it can be quite busy.  If it is too busy, request a meeting with the person during non-pavilion hours.
    • If your company is running an older version of Vista/Vantage or Epicor 9 this is an excellent opportunity to see the latest Epicor 10 version.
    • Calculate the cost of independent research vs. getting real-time solutions at the conference that can be implemented immediately.
    • Discount if you register four or more employees from your company
    • Opportunity to schedule One-on-One meetings with Epicor executives and subject matter experts.
  • Insights is an excellent networking opportunity.
    • The Insight conference is set up as a conference inside a conference.
      • Attendees are given color coded lanyards to identify the specific Epicor product used. This allows attendees to quickly identify people running the same software.
      • Breakfast and Lunch tables are separated so attendees can sit with people using the same Epicor product.
    • Social networking.
      • In a short amount of time you will meet other attendees using the same Epicor product that you are.
      • From questions asked in classes you will identify attendees having some of the same issues that your company is having. You will also be able to identify the attendees that have found solutions for some of these issues.   After the class, many impromptu meetings are held in the hallways based on these questions.
      • Chance to meet Epicor employees that you may have only talked to on the phone.

The Agenda Builder portal is now available to start creating you conference agenda.    The Agenda Builder App is available to download.  With this App you can use your smartphone/iPad while at the conference to:

  • Go to your preselected classes and receive any last minute Conference changes/announcements
  • Connect with fellow attendees and exhibitors
  • Download presentations and documents

XLConnect Available for Epicor Multi-Tenant

Monday, June 15th, 2015

Epicor recently announced the availability of XLConnect for Epicor Multi-tenant hosted customers. XLConnect allows you to build your financial reports in Epicor ERP using your existing Excel Knowledge.

It embeds itself into Excel and then pulls your live data in as needed. It saves significant amounts of time compared to static data exports and manipulation and insures the data is accurate and that no GL accounts have been missed.

We have a demonstration of it here  http://www.erp-demos.net/2011/06/epicor-xl-connect/

This advancement means the Epicor SaaS customers can now have the same great financial report writer option that is available to on-premise and our Azure hosted clients.

Epicor Embedded Education…What is it?

Friday, May 8th, 2015

Epicor ERP 9 and Epicor ERP 10 (Formally Vantage and Vista) offer a unique module called “Embedded Education”.  We have found many customers are confused by what it is and why they might want it.

Out of the box, Epicor includes one of the most robust online Help systems available.  It includes native English well written field by field level instructions for the vast majority of the screens in the application.  In many areas it includes illustrations and real life examples and is fully searchable.

In addition, Epicor includes Robust User manuals.  They can even be purchased in full color printed form which is a rarity in Enterprise software nowadays.

Like most publishers, Epicor also offers classroom style training classes.  Usually held at their corporate offices in California or Minneapolis.  These classes include a complete training guide, access to the software with a training database installed and an instructor.  Epicor also offers some classes via both live web instructors as well as completely recorded videos.

Clients First also offers an extensive library of Epicor 9 and Epicor 10 demonstration and training videos at no charge at www.erp-demos.net.

However, one unique module available is called Epicor Embedded Education.  This is the complete library of the same training materials used in the classroom but available to all licensed users of your Epicor installation.  They can be brought up within the Help Tile in Epicor 10 and by clicking on the ‘Graduating Student’ icon on the launcher toolbar in Epicor 9.  This training goes much more into the full lifecycle process of a function such as how to process RMA’s, versus the built in help which describes field by field the individual screens.

Embedded education provides you with HTML based interactive training manuals.  The important difference is the manuals are built around the Epicor Education company that should have been installed with your software.  This means you can go through the lessons and examples using the Education Company (Training database) and you can play with modules that may not be fully configured in your live system and make entries that won’t accidentally post live data into your system.  In addition, when it refers to an actual menu or function in the system, the hyperlinks will open up that function in your training company.

It’s an ideal solution if you are a growing company or have a lot of turnover because rather than paying for live training every time you move or add an employee you can simply assign them to go through the built in lessons.  Many even include ‘quizzes’ to help ensure the user is absorbing the knowledge.

We hope you find this valuable!

Epicor 9 Quick Tip

Inquiry History

Some Epicor screens keep track of the data you have been using.  This works very similar to who Microsoft Office works.  This history is found on the File menu.

The first time you open a screen like Customer maintenance the File menu looks like this:

Look up Addison, Boeing and Dalton.

Close the Customer Maintenance screen.

Reopen the Customer Maintenance screen and look at then File menu. Notice the three customers listed below the Exit.

Click on the Addison line and Epicor will load the Addison information into Customer Maintenance.
