Why is documentation needed?

Implementing a new ERP system, or upgrading to a newer version of the software, is a very time consuming process for any business. More often than not, the time needed for various stages of Implementation are highly underestimated and undervalued, including time needed for training, documentation, and testing. Additionally, in efforts to speed up a go-live date, companies often forego essential areas altogether, such as creating End-User Documentation.

documentationOne of the biggest causes of ERP implementation failure is inadequate education and training. In order to avoid this, and ensure your team is fully prepared for testing and training in a new ERP system, it is recommended that companies create their own End-User Documentation. This documentation helps to ensure the new processes and tasks are understood, documented, and helps the team with testing.

Why can’t your Implementation team write your documentation?

Creating End-User Documentation entails knowing a company’s processes and procedures inside and out, and nobody knows this better than the client themselves. Additionally, creating the documentation helps to engrain the new processes and tasks in the memories of the team members and helps to further engage them in the overall Implementation.

Sage Products to get New Names

Sage Re-Branding

Sage is rebranding most products in its portfolio to be consistent with their naming conventions worldwide.  However, there may be some confusion as, for example, Sage has a product in the UK called Sage 100 ERP and what we know as MAS 90 today will become Sage 100.  The two products are completely different but Sage’s hope is that they are different customer sets and the confusion will be minimal…. Only time will tell.

MAS90 and MAS200 Renaming

Relative to Clients First clients, the new names that will affect most of our clients are :

Old Name New Name
MAS 90 Sage 100 ERP Standard
MAS 200 Sage 100 ERP Advanced
MAS 200 SQL Sage 100 ERP Premium
MAS 500 Sage 500 ERP

 

This rebranding shouldn’t have much affect on our clients, but clearly you may be surprised to see these new names and new terms.  Please call us if you have any questions about this.

Frx Replacement – Sage MAS Intelligence. A Video Demonstration

Shipping now, Sage MAS Intelligence (SMI) which works with MAS 90, MAS 200, Sage Extended Enterprise Suite, and MAS500, is explained and demonstrated in this recording that the California office of Clients First recently put on for our clients. This solution is the replacement for FRx that Sage is offering now that Microsoft has discontinued Frx.

The video explains both the similarities and differences between the previous solution, Microsoft FRx and SMI.

In a nutshell, SMI is a solution that is embedded into Microsoft Excel that can directly read and understand MAS 90/200/500 data files.  It’s designed to walk a user through creating not only financial reports and statements, but other types of non-financial reports such as dashboards, analytics, KPI’s and even traditional reports such as an AR customer aging.

Come watch and listen in this segment which gives an overview and demonstration of the system.  In a forthcoming blog, we will go into a deeper demonstration of the solution so that you will be able to watch these videos and start to feel comfortable managing and designing your own reports.
